Plans, limits & billing
4 min read
You can get a long way for free. This page explains where the lines are, where to see your current allowance, and how to manage billing. For exact limits, current prices, Lab counts, and promotions, the Pricing page is always the source of truth. We do not repeat changing figures here.
Compare the plans
Free gives you the entire Algorithms track, performance grading, time and memory feedback, the guided Tour, progressive hints, speed leaderboards, progress rewards, and a selection of Labs when Labs is available. No credit card is required.
Pro opens the premium puzzle tracks, full hidden performance suites, all guided paths, and the full Pro Lab catalog. It also removes the daily run, submission, and reveal caps under fair use.
Pro+ includes Pro and adds the extra capabilities listed on Pricing, such as higher concurrency and first access to selected new experiences. Roadmap items marked Coming soon are not part of the currently usable feature set.
See the feature matrix for the current line-by-line comparison.
What counts against each limit
Free usage has separate allowances. They are not interchangeable:
- Run uses the daily run allowance but never spends a submission. Use it for visible samples and custom input.
- Submit uses the daily submission allowance because it grades the complete suite.
- Reveal solution uses the daily reveal allowance. It does not use a run or submission and does not mark the puzzle solved.
The habit from Getting started helps a day's submissions last: Run until the samples pass, test an edge case, think, and then Submit. Daily allowances reset automatically; unused capacity does not carry over.
The Playground header shows remaining guest submissions or signed-in Free usage when available. A dismissible warning appears as you approach a limit. When a limit is reached, the message identifies which allowance was used and when to try again. Troubleshooting covers limit messages that do not look right.
Guests and signed-in accounts
Guest access has its own daily submission allowance. Creating an account does more than change a counter: it gives you cross-device solved history, activity, learning progress, XP, streaks, achievements, leaderboards, rewards, and saved Lab completion.
Puzzle editor buffers, custom inputs, revealed hints, and some workspace preferences remain in the current browser even after sign-in. Clearing site data can remove those local items. Your signed-in solved and submission history remains attached to the account.
Upgrading and downgrading
Upgrading takes effect after checkout completes. The app refreshes your access and opens the content included in the new plan. Billing is monthly or annual, and the Pricing page shows the charged amount and any current promotion.
If you cancel, you keep paid access until the displayed cancellation date, then return to Free. Downgrading locks content outside Free but does not delete solved history, earned rewards, or local editor buffers. If you later resubscribe, the preserved progress is available again.
Account & billing page
Open Account & billing in the app navigation. The plan card shows:
- current plan and subscription status;
- renewal date or scheduled cancellation date when applicable;
- daily submission allowance;
- number of accessible puzzle tracks;
- learning-path access.
Free accounts see View plans. Paid subscribers see Manage billing, which opens the secure customer portal in a new tab. Use that portal to update a payment method, view invoices, or cancel.
A Past due or Paused status means billing needs attention. Open Manage billing and follow the instructions there. A scheduled cancellation continues to show paid access until its effective date.
Payments and refunds
Payments are handled by our reseller, Paddle, who acts as the merchant of record and issues the receipt for your purchase. Payment details are entered in Paddle's checkout and customer portal.
If a subscription is not what you expected, see the Refund policy for how refunds are handled and the Terms of Service for the full agreement. For a billing question that the portal cannot answer, email support@katabench.com.
